Step 1

Leave the bandage on the tattoo for 2hr-10hrs. Tattoos will ooze, this is a normal part of the healing process. Keeping the bandage on will keep airborne bacteria and any other contaminants from invading your wound.

Step 2

Wash hands with disinfectant soap before removing the bandage. May be easier to remove bandage under warm water.

Step 3

After removing the bandage, cleanse the tattooed area with water. DO NOT SCRUB the tattoo with a brush or towel (this should not be done until the tattoo is healed). While tattoo is healing, gently cleansing will help remove any dead cells that may have accumulated on the surface of the tattoo.

Step 4

Let the tattoo air dry completely, approximately 10 minutes uncovered.

Step 5

Once tattooed area is dry, you may use Polysporin to help heal faster. Polysporin can be found at any pharmacy.

KEEP IN MIND

After a few days, you may notice some peeling and possibly a little scabbing. This is when your tattoo may begin to itch. PLEASE DO NOT SCRATCH, RUB, OR PICK at the tattoo. Please do your best to resist scratching, rubbing or picking at your tattoo.

  • Patience is key: Healing takes time, and some itching is a normal part of the process.

  • Don't use Vaseline on new tattoos: Vaseline can trap moisture and bacteria, potentially hindering the healing process

  • Scratching can lead to complications: Scratching can damage the skin, leading to scarring, infection, and even ink loss.

Tips ' n ' Tricks

Here are some tips n tricks to help with the itching and scabbing process.

  • Cold compresses: Applying a cool, damp cloth to the area can help reduce itching and swelling.

  • Moisturizing: Keep the area moisturized, but avoid overly moisturizing, as this can trap moisture and increase the risk of infection.

  • Sun protection: Protect the tattoo from direct sunlight, as it can cause fading and further irritation.

  • Clothing: Wear loose-fitting clothing that won't rub against the tattoo

which can be particularly damaging to a fresh tattoo

Sunscreen

DO NOT APPLY SUNSCREEN TO A NEW TATTOO!

Sunscreen can irritate the open wound of a fresh tattoo and interfere with the healing process. It's best to keep the tattoo covered and out of direct sunlight until it is fully healed, which typically takes 4-6 week

  • Sunscreen chemicals can irritate the delicate, healing skin of a fresh tattoo, leading to redness, itching, or even allergic reactions.

  • Sunscreen can create a barrier that prevents proper airflow and oxygenation, which are essential for healing.

  • Potential for ink discoloration.

  • Sunscreen chemicals can interact with the tattoo ink, potentially causing it to fade or change color.

  • Burn risk.

  • While sunscreen doesn't cause a burn directly, it can make the skin more susceptible to sunburn.

Ointments and Creams

Do not use any scented or petroleum based lotions, moisturizers or creams. Do not use any antibacterial ointments without speaking to your artists and/or doctors first.
